How to…
December 8th, 2018
In this Blog, I want to show you how I have used organic shapes and patterns without doing the obvious such as the use of flowers in a romantic cottage feel or the green leaves trend which is still going strong.
Below I have assembled a styling board with items which are part of an interior I have created for my client. My client has a penthouse with a large terrace with 15 meters of sliding doors. The surroundings are sand, sun, warm orange coloured buildings and a sea view. So I have decided to bring the outdoor colours inside the home. So we have blue hues, often the see in Abu Dhabi has a light blue/ grey tone such as the sky, furthermore, I will use the warm orange and a golden yellow. As my client loves organic shapes and flows, such as ferns and rivers I have decided to use organic shapes and patterns.

The rug reminds me of a sea line created on the sand, the shape takes your eye and transports it to the other end of it. The blue in the table enhances that shape and the table is actually called “river table”. We will place two rugs, both the same large size, 350cm by 450cm with the flow going to the corners of the room creating an elongating effect. The table will be positioned in the middle.
The curtains are very airy and flowy. My client doesn’t need to have a total block in front of her window as no one will be able to look in. The curtains have a sunset feel as if looking at a horizon far away.

The cabinet brings in some fun, it is hand painted and enhances the colours and organic feel. It will be placed with a large table that will function as a desk.

The cushion is part of a large two corner sofa for the lounge area. Again, the blue, orange and golden yellow are found back. The couch itself is in a neutral grey with a hint of blue but will have the cushion above as well as different ones in the colour combination chosen. The round bits in the cushions are derived from the leaves of waterlilies and they are accompanied by a star-like pattern. There will be two swivel chairs with the same golden shade as found in some of the cushions. The shape of the chair reminds me of a shell.
A good interior always has artwork, I do like this piece of art made out of several types of wood.

And how about this work from an artist living in Dubai:

I would like to think that I have created a lovely natural feeling home, with sea view, while staying away from easy styling Hampton’s beach style home with predictable Rotan and shells.
Thanks for reading, hope to see you next time.
