The Teens Bathroom – 2

The Town House Teens Bathroom, furnishings and finishes…

I tend work simultaneously on the finishing’s and furnishings as the ergonomics, floorplan of any space as the one influences the other both ways. But as space is always limited, it is making the floorplan of higher importance and giving restrictions to the kind of furnishings I am looking for.

Earlier I have created a mood board for me to hold on to while searching for furnishings and finishes based on the words, “Fresh and Elegant”, the feel I like for the design. This bathroom is part of a household with two other bathrooms and I do like them to have a similar feel to it, but not the same. This bathroom is on the top floor on the townhouse. I like it to be light and want to have an “airy” feeling.

The style board below is my translation of the mood board for the selection of furnishings and finishing’s that represent the feel and look I am aiming for in the bathroom.

For the reference please look at my Pinterest page, you will find the details of all items above.

For the finishing’s I would like to use only two materials. The bathroom floorplan is quite dynamic, although balanced, I think by keeping the finishing’s limited to just two types it will help to create the effect I am looking for. The eye-catching material I want to use are the mosaics tiling by Bisazza. These 2*2 cm tiles have soft greens, blues and a hint of purple’s pastel colours with a bit of a pearl shine in it, I absolutely love this for the girls. Digitally they aren’t as stunning as in real life, as the gloss isn’t showing, nevertheless below a larger image of them.

The floor, including shower floor, the shower walls and the build ups behind the basins will be done in mosaic.

I would like to use white “beton-cire” (check out www.beton-cire.com) for the other walls, an example is found on the Style board, the picture top left with the window in it. Beton-cire is very practical as it is water resistant, easy cleaning and can be used in any part of the bathroom or actually any other part of a house. I like this combination as the tiles are brilliant, to many can be overwhelming, spoiling the effect. The white beton-cire is meant as a neutral base.

Don’t you just love the design of these floor based basins (www.inbani.com). They look very elegant, but still youthful and due to its sleek design, it will help make the room look airy and light. The bath is from the same design line as the basins and therefor will go perfectly. I choose a stand-alone bath as again this will make the space feel airy and light. I prefer a tap on its own next to bath instead of coming from the wall.

Both girls get their own cupboard for their toiletries, the cupboard will be plain white, not attracting any attention away from the mosaic, basins and bathtub. Without a “top” around the basins and with only just a little rim on the wall behind the basin, the girls will have to put their toiletries directly back into the cupboard. This will keep the bathroom look tidy. I had a bathroom situation like that some time ago and I can tell you it works!

I have created a separate storage space underneath the cupboard for the towels. The towel heater will be behind the door and the bathroom will be heated through floor heating.

The bathroom will need a good lighting plan, this I will discuss in a future blog. But don’t you just love this butterfly light, it goes perfectly with the colours of the tiles. I would need to consult the electrician about pendant possibilities. The shower is not far away, so I might be restricted with the pendant.

Also, the taps will need to be selected. All the taps, shower heads, drainage and so on, will be from the same brand in the same line for all the bathrooms and half-baths in the Town House. This will be probably the last decision to be made when all the bathrooms and half bath have been designed.
